In January 2011, at the request of the Prime Minister, an inquiry was commenced into the actions of relevant Australian government agencies in relation to the arrest and detention overseas of Mr Mamdouh Habib from 2001 to 2005. The final report was provided to the Prime Minister on 19 December 2011. The report is highly classified making its distribution strictly limited. However, given the significant public interest in the outcomes of this inquiry, the Prime Minister has agreed to the public release of an abridged version of the report.
